FIELD: transport.
SUBSTANCE: communication system contains place-exchange function which is performed via multiple stages of method for place-exchange of functionality of lead unit and remote unit at the end of train. Train operation conditions at first can be determined to ensure possibility of place-exchange function fulfilment. Communication system is set in neutral mode and brakes and protective interlocks are used for protection against train movement. Each remote locomotive in the train is commanded to go to transition stage and it is reconfigured to accept commands and messages from new lead unit. After train driver has moved from old lead unit to new lead unit, the old lead unit goes to remote status and new lead unit gives command to finish transition period. Train brakes are lowered and communication system sets in normal mode of operation. At this moment traction power can be supplied to move train.
EFFECT: improvement of drivability and performance of train.
