FIELD: physics, acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to check suitability of a piezoelectric crystal for making wideband ultrasound transducer. The method involves measurement of coefficient of attenuation of ultrasound through diffraction of light on ultrasonic oscillations in local areas selected arbitrarily on the length of the piezoelectric crystal. An alternating electric field is also applied to the said local areas and from resonance-antiresonance frequency values, the electromechanical coupling coefficient is determined, the value of which, together with the value coefficient of attenuation of ultrasound measured in the same local area, is used to check homogeneity of properties of the crystal, presence in the locally selected area of the piezoelectric crystal of which indicates suitability of the crystal for making wideband ultrasound transducers.
EFFECT: improved checking suitability of a piezoelectric crystal for making wideband ultrasound transducers.
