SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a software update system and method. The system includes an update packet processor for creating a software update packet and an update packet server, which enables the receiving device to load the update packet. The method involves creation of an update packet based on differences between a first and a second version of software in the update packet processor, notification of the receiving device on release of the update packet at the update packet server, loading the update packet from the update packet server into the receiving device, installation of the update packet in a first memory device; and combination of the update packet and the first version which must be loaded as a second version of the software into volatile memory in response to an update command.

EFFECT: more stable operation of a portable device which supports data transfer over a radio channel.
