FIELD: mechanics.
SUBSTANCE: proposed invention relates to honeycomb element for neutralisation or reduction of toxicity in spent gases produced in operation of internal combustion engine. Honeycomb element has inner walls, which form channels passing from input end to output end. Element has several free inner cavities, which are not limited by inner walls, shape and dimensions of which are such that a ball-like free space is inscribed in each of these inner cavities. Maximum area of cross section of ball-like space exceeds average area of channels cross section at least ten times. Honeycomb element has cylindrical shape and is made of one or several packs assembled from metal sheets or one or several rolled metal sheets with helical winding. Smooth and corrugated metal sheets are used to manufacture honeycomb element. Holes in metal sheets of one pack are located in direction of their width at identical distances from each other, and in direction of their length - at various distances.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of gas treatment from hazardous substances due to intense cross mixing of gas flow in honeycomb element, design stability of element.
