SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a mobile communication device which measures characteristics or attributes of a first communication network which vary in accordance with the physical location in the first communication network to create a fingerprint or signature of the location in the first communication network. When the fingerprint of the current location of the mobile device is created, it can be compared with a known fingerprint related to a second communication network to determine proximity of the mobile device to the second communication network. Also the second and next fingerprints generated for a specific communication network can be used to alter a stored fingerprint for the purpose of its updating in order to enhance detection of proximity to the communication network.
EFFECT: design of an efficient method of creating and supporting a fingerprint in a communication network.
