FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: acoustic signals are registered by receivers arranged in drill holes at depth making at least half the bench thickness. Time of signal arrival to every receiver is recorded. Received signals are compared to reference signal obtained in calibration of signal generated in ignited bench coal performed on coal samples. If received signal corresponds to reference signal, the former allows defining direction and distance to fire spot. Additionally, monitoring of origination and development of fire as well as of precursors of fire is carried out. Proposed system comprises acoustic signal receivers, LF amplifiers, data transfer channels, unit of data processing and decision making. Data transfer channels represent conducting or fibro-optic cables or radio waves. Unit of data processing and decision making allows determining direction and distance to fire, and to tune the filter to frequency signal range.
