FIELD: fire safety.

SUBSTANCE: in the method for extinguishing local underground combustion sources of peat fires, including the determination of the boundary of active local underground combustion source of peat fire in the form of an underground chamber, drilling of inclined wells in the direction of the said chamber, supplying pressurized water to the combustion zone of the underground chamber of the peat layer, mounting alternately in each of them a downhole hydraulic monitor with a nozzle in the front part, eroding the peat layer from the said nozzle by water by rotating the downhole hydraulic monitor by rotational mechanism, and mechanically mixing burning and non-burning peat layers to complete extinguishing of the combustion source of peat fire.

EFFECT: method of extinguishing local underground combustion sources of peat fires is easy to operate and can be used to extinguish local peat fires with any depth of peat in conditions of limited use of heavy equipment, equipment and the risk of people staying.
