FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: ultrasonic flaw detection is carried out in threaded joints of a pipe or tube having a cone which has a part with an external thread, a metal sealing part and a front part on the inner peripheral surface, and a socket having a part with an internal thread, a metal sealing part and a front part which match each part of the cone on the inner peripheral surface, attached to the cone with lubrication. The process involves steps on which ultrasound waves are transmitted and received to and from several places along the axial direction of the threaded joint in at least some part with an internal thread, metal sealing part and front part of the socket. Intensity of reflected signals and reception time of reflected signals for several places are recorded. The irregular part in the threaded joint is identified based on distribution of intensities of reflected signals in the axial direction and distribution of reception time of reflected signals in the axial direction.

EFFECT: possibility of identifying an irregular area in the contact region between each part of the cone and each part of the socket which form a threaded joint used to join pipes or tubes.
