FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to purification of water from organic contaminants through complete oxidation with formation of carbon dioxide gas and water. The method can be used in water treatment and/or treating effluent from different industries and is aimed at protecting the environment and human health. Oxidation with ozone from an ozone-air mixture in the presence of a solid catalyst is carried out in order to purify water from organic contaminants. The catalyst used is in form of porous copper blocks. The catalyst is a highly porous cellular copper material. Content of catalyst and ozone is 1-10 g/l and 0.01-0.03 g/l respectively. The purification process is carried out at rate of supply of the ozone-air mixture equal to 0.5-2 l/min for 5-20 minutes at room temperature.
EFFECT: method ensures high percentage of decomposition of organic contaminants in a period of time which is shorter than in existing methods, and also reduces expenses due to exclusion of an extra filtration step.
