FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to field of metallurgy and can be applied in nuclear fuel production. Fragmented uranium-containing composition, which consists of uranium dioxide and polyethylene, is loaded into reaction reservoir with installed above it enclosure. Area of section of clearance between reaction reservoir and enclosure constitutes 10-20% of area of reaction reservoir transverse section. Primary thermal processing of uranium-containing composition in the air at temperature up to 500°C is carried out. Rate of heating at temperature from 250°C to 500°C constitutes 0.5-1 °C/min, vacuum in enclosure being 0.9-0.8 ata. After this thermal re-processing of separated uranium-containing constituent is carried out at temperature 850-950°C during 5-10 hours.
EFFECT: invention allows to reduce fire and explosion hazard and nuclear hazard of process and increase degree of extraction from composition of uranium-protoxide-oxide.
