FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of desorbing iodine from anionites and can be used in the technology of extracting iodine from natural brines of oil-gas fields and industrial solutions where ion exchange resins are used. The method of extracting iodine from weakly basic anionites involves oxidation of elementary iodine in solid phase of the anionite with an oxidising agent and extraction of the oxidation products from the solid phase. The weakly basic anionite used is a copolymer of styrene with divinylbenzene. The oxidising agent and desorbent used is a hypochlorite solution of alkali metals with concentration of at least 0.025 mol-eq/l and alkalinity of at least 0.01 mol/l. Iodine is desorbed under static conditions with solid phase to liquid phase ratio equal to 1:500 - 1:1000.
EFFECT: more efficient extraction of iodine using available desorption reagent to obtain an end product in form of alkali metal iodates.
