FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: magnetic-inductive flow metre is designed for measuring flow of a medium (11) through a measuring pipe (2) with a magnetic system in form of coils (6; 7), measuring electrodes (4; 5) and a reference electrode (17) at defined potential. The reference electrode (17) is connected to a resistor (20). The measuring device (21) determines current through the resistor (20), the value of which is sent to a control/processing unit (8), which is made with possibility of evaluating current for timely detection of faults in the measuring device (1) or reference electrode (17). A display (9) displays a warning and/or information on the remaining service life of the measuring device (1) or reference element (17).

EFFECT: invention determination of the necessary replacement age of the flow metre or its components.
