SUBSTANCE: invention is meant for measuring flow of medium (11) through a measuring pipe (2) with an assembly of coils (6, 7) which generates an alternating magnetic field. The device (8) which controls/processes data based on the value of voltage measured on electrodes (4, 5) determines the flow rate of the medium (11). For timely detection of a fault in the flow metre (1), the device (8) determines the actual setting time before the flow metre achieves stable measurement mode, compares the actual setting time with standard setting time given for the flow metre (1) before achieving stable measurement mode and generates an error signal if the actual setting time is greater than the given standard setting time. The standard setting time the period of time before the flow metre (1) determines the optimum value of the controlled specific parametre of the sensor: period of time during which current flowing the assembly of coils reaches a constant finite value.
EFFECT: predictive maintenance for eliminating faults in the flow metre.
