SUBSTANCE: invention discloses an illumination device (1) for an installation (2), made with possibility of determining presence of defects on the surface (s) of the mouth of a transparent or translucent container (4) from an image. The device has at least one illumination system (11, 20) which provides in each point of the surface covering the surface (s) of the mouth quasi-constant illumination at all angles or part of angles of incidence within at least a part of a solid angle of 2π steradian, and apparatus (12) for blocking at least part of light beams illuminating areas outside the surface (s) of the mouth (3), and capable of eliminating spurious reflections from the image of the mouth.
EFFECT: more reliable detection of defects of different types.
