FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to cardiology and functional diagnostics, and can be used in the selection of conservative treatment carotid stenosis. That is ensured by spectral Doppler ultrasound of carotid arteries in extracranial part. Peripheral resistance indices PI and IR are determined in the common carotid artery (CCA) and in its terminal extracranial part - supratrochlear arteries (STA) from both sides. It is followed with calculation of the difference (Δ) in the segment CCA-STA between PI CCA and PI STA (ΔPI) and between IR CCA and IR STA (ΔR). A conclusion is drawn as follows: if ΔPI> 0.5 standard units, and ΔIR> 0.2 standard units, "functional" hemodynamic stenosis is considered to prevail that requires the prescription of II-III generation didihydropyridine Ca antagonists. In case ΔPI <0.5 standard units, and ΔIR <0.2 standard units, arteriolosclerotic changes are observed, and combination therapy is administered.

EFFECT: method allows determining the indications for early combination AH therapy in elderly patients, assessing the possibility of monotherapy in the absence of the other contraindications.
