FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to miniature "transparent" travelling-wave tubes (TWT) in the millimetre or centimetre wavelength range with average and high power and high gain with a slow-wave structure of the type of a chain of coupled resonators. The TWT has first, second, third and fourth sections lying in series along the axis of the TWT on the direction from the electron gun to the collector, where the said sections have length l1 l2, l3 l4 and step h1, h2, h3, h4, respectively, selected from the condition that l1=n1h1, l2=n2h2, l3=n3h3, l4=nh4, h3=h1, h1/h2=h3/h2=1.02-1.04, h3/h4=1,05÷1,07, where n1 n2, n3, n4 is number of resonators on the first, second, third and fourth section of the slow-wave structure, respectively, where n2=1.5≤n1=n3=n4≤10.
EFFECT: higher resistance to self-excitation in the working wavelength range in a given range of operating voltages and reduced probability of excitation at the upper and lower limits of the transmission band of the slow-wave structure of the TWT, whose gain is greater than 10 dB.
