FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. The method of producing zinc oxide involves grinding zinc-containing material in form of powdered zinc metal and treatment with a gas-air mixture carried out while grinding at temperature of 60-100°C for 30-90 minutes. The gas-air mixture contains water vapour, air and ammonia in molar ratio H2O:air:NH3 = (0.25-0.5):1:(0.05-0.12). Calcination is also carried out at 150-200°C for 1.5-2.5 hours.
EFFECT: invention increases specific surface area of the obtained chemically pure zinc oxide.
