FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing chemically pure zinc oxide with high specific surface area, which can be used in industry as a component of catalysts, sorbents and luminophors. Method involves grinding zinc metal powder, treating it with a reaction mixture and calcining the obtained mass. According to the invention, the reaction mixture used is a solution of oxalic acid, treatment with a reaction mixture is carried out in an ultrasonic field with intensity of 1.0÷4.0 W/cm3 at weight ratio of components Zn:H2C2O4:H2O = 1:(0.5–2):5. Calcination of the obtained mass is carried out at 370–410 °C.
EFFECT: high specific surface area of zinc oxide.
