FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method involves cooling a vessel 1 to freezing point, holding the vessel with step-by-step freezing of water in the following sequence: heavy water freezes on the walls of the vessel first, followed by pure water and finally water with high content of salts at the centre of the vessel, and thawing ice, wherein the entire amount of water is thawed. The vessel with frozen water is then turned over and thawed, where when thawing the ice, a portion of water with high content of heavy water flows under gravity into an airtight container 4 through a hole 5 which connects the vessel and the airtight container, and after filling the airtight container, the next portions of melt water fill the vessel to the level of overflow openings 6 and flow out of the vessel, and the last portions of water with high content of salts obtained from thawing the centre of the ice remain in the vessel. The vessel is airtight, has a filler neck 3 with a cover 2, joined to the airtight container 4. The airtight container is connected to the vessel through an opening 5 and its volume is 3-6% of the volume of the vessel. In the top part of the vessel below the opening which connects the vessel and airtight container there is one or more overflow openings 6 at a height corresponding to 60-90% of the volume of the vessel.
EFFECT: simple process of separating water to obtain pure melt water having low content of heavy water and salts.
