FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: emitting and receiving ultrasonic transducers are placed mutually opposite each other on different sides of the arch of an article. Ultrasonic oscillations are transmitted to the article. The arch of the article is scanned with pulses of ultrasonic oscillations which are the received by a receiving transducer in an air medium. During inspection when the arch of the article is moving relative the emitting and receiving ultrasonic transducers, the emitting transducer moves to back-and-forth parallel the surface of the article in the direction perpendicular the direction of movement of the article. The average speed and displacement value of the transducer is selected based on the following relationship v1=2v2(a/b-1), where v1 is average speed of back-and-forth movement of the transducer; v2 is speed of the article, a is amplitude of displacement of the transducer; b is diametre of the projection of the ultrasonic field of the emitting transducer on the surface of the article.
EFFECT: high efficiency of ultrasonic inspection of articles.
