FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of determining coefficient of internal dissipation of energy in material whose modulus of elasticity is significantly less than that of steel (plastic, rubber, wood, rock) involves suspension of a striker on an inextensible cord in form of a physical pendulum which is inclined by a defined angle and freely released. The striker then collides with the test model thereby undergoing a vibration-impact process. An observer records the angle of inclination of the axis of the pendulum. The coefficient of internal dissipation of energy in the material is determined using the formula: where φ0 is the initial angle of inclination, φn is the angle of inclination after the n-th impact, n is the number of inclinations.
EFFECT: high measurement accuracy by achieving uniform compression on the entire length of the model made from the test material.
