FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in fast reactors or for prolonged storage of uranium oxides. Depleted uranium tetrafluoride is mixed with silicon oxide and annealed at temperature 600-650°C in a pipe furnace in atmospheric air for 1-2 hours. The reagent mixture is prepared in molar ratio of uranium tetrafluoride to silicon oxide equal to (1.05-1.10):1 and then processed in a disintegrator which is a device composed of two rotors with fingers inside a common housing, where said fingers lie on concentric circles and where each row of one rotor lies between rows of other rotors rotating towards each other with relative velocity of 5-15 thousand rpm for 7-20 minutes. After annealing, triuranium octoxide which contains fluorine in form of uranyl fluoride is obtained.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain uranium oxides which are not contaminated with silicon.
