FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method for ground-based use of nickel-hydrogen accumulator batteries (NHAB) in artificial earth satellites (AES) involves carrying out charge-discharge cycles and periodic storage in discharged state. Storage of NHAB in discharged state is carried out with periodic recharging carried out by connecting the NHAB to stabilised voltage with restriction to the available charging current equal to: Uacc+(0.025-0.05) V, where Uacc is the current voltage value of the open circuit of one accumulator but not less than 1.25 V, control of the recharging current and stopping recharging when the recharging current falls to a value less than 0.015 of the nominal capacitance of accumulators of the battery.

EFFECT: improved capacitance characteristics and reliable operation of nickel-hydrogen accumulator batteries in artificial earth satellites.
