FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method of determining the length of stalks of bast-fibre crops involves obtaining a digital image of the stalks and analysis of the image by counting pixels and then determining the length of the stalk. Before analysis, the stalk is placed onto a blue coloured substrate and its digital image is taken. Pixels associated with the stalk are isolated by filtering the image and all the said pixels are divided into sections on the length of the isolated image of the stalk. The sum and average width of the section in pixels are calculated for each section, from which the length of each section is determined. The obtained length values of all sections are summed up. The length of the stalk in length measurement units is determined based on scaling the image of the standard length.
EFFECT: simple method of monitoring and rapid determination of the length of stalks of bast-fibre crops regardless of their shape based on sample recognition principles.
