SUBSTANCE: invention relates to atomic power engineering and nuclear medicine. The two-phase cryogenic avalanche detector, which consists of a cryogenic chamber filled with a noble gas (Ar, Xe, Ne, He, Kr) in a two-phase state (liquid-gas), at least one photomultiplier assembly, a cathode in the bottom part of the chamber, an electroluminescence gap over the liquid, is characterised by that the electroluminescence gap is formed by one or more multiplier tubes in the gas and a conducting gauze or a multiplier tube in the liquid, and an assembly of lateral photomultipliers with windows facing the centre of the gap is placed around the electroluminescence gap.
EFFECT: high spatial resolution.
