FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to adsorption techniques and can be used to produce activated carbon. The method of producing activated carbon from polymer material - textolite - involves carbonisation while raising temperature at a rate of 5-10°C/h to 450-500°C in a carbon dioxide atmosphere, devolatisation at 720-760°C and activation with water vapour with ratio of carbon to water vapour equal to 1:7-10.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain activated carbon with good adsorption properties using low-molecular weight substances of the type of ethyl chloride, methanol, methylene chloride, acetone, which are components of chemical production which are the most difficult to remove.
