SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hardware diagnostics in ship building. Proposed method of diagnosing comprises measuring operating, fuel consumption and diagnostics parametres, measurement results being entered into computer diagnostics model to relate fuel consumption to various power losses. Parametres are compared with losses to conclude on the type of diesel generator defects. Method may be implemented without shutting down diesel generator on entering manually diagnostics model of measured parametres and fuel consumption or automatically using appropriate transducers.

EFFECT: preventing failures, reduced costs of diagnostics and troubleshooting.
