FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves operation of a laser gyroscope in double-frequency conditions at one of orthogonally polarised ring laser modes, creating a frequency support by superposing magnetic field onto the active element of the ring laser, extraction of information on angular displacements from information coming from the ring laser, periodic successive operation of the ring laser in double-frequency conditions on modes with orthogonal polarisations of the ring laser. Switching from one mode of the ring laser to a mode with orthogonal polarisation during each successive periods of switching T, the first of which starts from the beginning of measuring angular displacements, is carried out in time equal to T/4 and 3T/4 of these periods.
EFFECT: invention reduces errors in measuring angular displacement during each period of switching over the measurement time, resulting from sensitivity of the laser gyroscope, working in double-frequency conditions, to magnetic fields without increasing the number of switches.
