FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: chambers are filled with a polymer. Ultrasonic pulses are emitted and pulses transmitted through the sample are received. The propagation speed and attenuation coefficient of ultrasound are calculated. The average molecular weight of the polymer in the solvent is found based on the attenuation coefficient and the propagation speed of ultrasound, using experimentally determined parametres of a mathematical model which links average molecular weight with acoustic characteristics of the polymer solution.
EFFECT: rapid and accurate determination of average molecular weight of polymers in a solution.
