FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: group may be based on handover rules, which may include indication of the group by an access point or request of the group by an access terminal. The terminal has a functionality for selecting the group with softer handover, which may be indicated by updating the active set. The access point may stop servicing terminals on groups by cutting the size of the active set to one. Spacing may be provided such that, if transmission from one sector ceases, another sector may provide transmission, thus alleviating data loss.
EFFECT: immunity to inappropriate conditions in a channel.
