FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: laser active element has a vacuum airtight jacket with output windows on its faces and two electrodes on its ends. The electrodes are annular shaped and are placed coaxially on the ends of the vacuum airtight jacket and are insulated from the active medium by its walls. Metal pieces are placed inside the said jacket in the region of the working channel. The active element has a halogen generator for forming a metal halide in the working channel. The halogen generator is in form of an additional vessel whose inside is connected to the inside of the vacuum airtight jacket and is filled either with an adsorbent saturated with gaseous halogen, or a solid-phase halogen. The additional vessel lies in the region of the working channel of the vacuum airtight jacket and is in form of a cylindrical extension which is connected to the working channel by a branch from the vacuum airtight jacket.
EFFECT: easy operation and longer service life of metal halide vapour laser active elements.
