FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: differential pressure in a stream is measured using two piezoelectric pressure sensors. Pressure gradient existing in the stream during one period (P) is determined. Harmonic amplitude of the pressure gradient is calculated via a Fourier transform. Frequency f and time t are converted to dimensionless number F, τ, and mass flow rate is determined using conversion tables which define the relationship between the value F and values ψn and Δθn, which characterise mass flow rate, where ψn is the amplitude factor of dimensionless mass flow rate, Δθn is the phase difference between fluctuations of the pressure gradient and mass flow rate for the n-th harmonic component of mass flow rate by reading from said table for each number F of frequency f of corresponding values ψn, Δθn, which describe instantaneous mass flow rate for the obtained pressure gradient.
EFFECT: invention increases accuracy of determining mass flow rate by enabling continuous measurement with time resolution using a reliable and cheap device, having apparatus for determining pressure gradient and a computer.
