FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: device has a polarisation interrupter, a measurement interrupter, an accumulator with two outputs, a clock generator, a measuring amplifier, a comparison electrode, a potential sensor, a point for measuring potential of the protected structure and a unit for measuring noise signal. The disclosed method is characterised by that amplitude of the noise signal and the potential difference between the comparison electrode and the potential sensor is measured. The potential sensor is polarised during a time interval which is sufficient for equalising the value of the potential sensor and the potential of the structure. The amplitude of the noise signal is also measured when polarising the potential sensor. The threshold value of the noise signal is generated. Polarisation potential is measured at noise signal amplitude values lower than the threshold value. Potential difference is measured at noise signal amplitude values lower than the threshold value.

EFFECT: high noise immunity when measuring potential of underground structures.
