FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of 2,4-diphenylmagnesacycloheptane (I) of formula: (I). The method involves reaction of styrene with magnesacyclopentane in the presence of a zirconocene dichloride Cp2ZrCl2 catalyst. The reaction is carried out in an atmosphere of dry ethylene fed under pressure of 0.02-0.05 MPa in molar ratio styrene: magnesacyclopentane: Cp2ZrCl2 = 10:10:(0.2-0.4), in a tetrahydrofuran solution at 20-22°C for 4-7 hours.
EFFECT: method increases output of 2,4-diphenylmagnesacycloheptane.
