FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of carbonaceous heat-insulating materials and can be used for high-temperature heat-insulation and lining components of high-temperature furnaces. A bundle consisting of flexible graphite foil and a layer containing intercalated graphite and binder placed on the said foil is made. The bundle is heated to temperature ranging from the temperature at which the binder turns into viscous-flow state to a temperature which is 50°C higher than this point. Thermal treatment is carried out in the presence of elements which limit the volume of the low-density layer during thermal expansion of the intercalated graphite. The obtained multilayer carbonaceous heat-insulating material contains at least one layer of graphite foil and at least one low-density layer based on thermally expanded graphite with density of 0.01-0.2 g/cm3, characterised by coefficient of thermal expansion of 2-4·10-5 K-1 in a temperature interval of 298-1250 K.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain low-density materials of any given shape, having low coefficient of heat conductivity, containing a given number of low-density heat-insulating layers and layers of graphite foil.
