FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: reference section with its ends fixed by points is selected. Scanner is placed at location of line connecting two points approximately at line center. Scanner vertical axis is set vertically with error not exceeding 5°. Plates are arranged on fixed pints and centered above said points, vertical axes being arranged vertically. Multiple measurements are made (over 1000) for both plates in compliance with operating instructions to produce 2 scans. Said scans are used to define centers of plates as intersection of diagonals to calculate spatial coordinates of plate centers. The latter are used to define distance between plates S1-2. Obtained distances are compared with reference values Sref. Measurement error mmeas is defined by formula mmeas -Sref-S1-2 to compare errors in mmeas with tolerances. Tolerance is defined by formula where ms=(a+b×10-6 S1-2) is mean square measurement error of distances specified in operating instructions for particular ground laser scanner type, "a" is constant (instrumental) error and "b" is regular error specified in operating instructions.
