FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: air-cooling apparatus is a room with a hydrophobic coating on the walls, floor and ceiling, in which are installed a ventilation type wind tunnel and a system for feeding water into the stream of air in form of droplets of given size. Air temperature in the chamber required for investigating ice formation is established by blowing cold air which has been cooled by the cooling machine. In order to improve its mixing with ambient air, the jet flowing from the wind tunnel is broken by nets and a cowling placed at a distance from the outlet section of the pipe which is not less than 7 times the diameter of the outlet section of the pipe. Air flow rate in the room must not be higher than 0.5 m/s.

EFFECT: design of an air-cooling apparatus which enables to investigate ice formation under laboratory conditions regardless of the weather.
