FIELD: aircraft industry.
SUBSTANCE: inventions relate to flying laboratories for creating a man-made ice cloud for testing and certification of airplane engines in flight. Said method for creating a man-made ice crystal cloud involves spraying distilled water in the form of an aerosol from a flying laboratory (FL) in flight through nozzles using compressed air. In this case, the air-water aerosol is sprayed at the altitude of more than 8500 m, at a temperature below minus 40°С through the spray device installed on a pylon directly in front of the engine under test. The airplane’s operational engine is outside of the man-made ice crystal cloud. Crystallization of the aerosol in the form of the ice crystal cloud is carried out by additional spraying of liquid nitrogen into the aerosol.
EFFECT: increased reliability of icing conditions, increased safety and reduced costs in comparison with tests in natural conditions of crystalline icing are achieved.
