FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fire resistant composite material. The composite material contains a polymer and a) 0.1-30 wt % organically modified layered double hydroxide and b) 10-70 wt % metal hydroxide, per total weight of the composite material. The organically modified layered double hydroxide contains a charge-balanced anion having at least two carbon atoms. The metal hydroxide is selected from a group consisting of magnesium hydroxide, aluminium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, zinc hydroxide and barium hydroxide. The composite material has improved flame retarding properties. During combustion, the composite material exhibits a drop in falling of liquids in droplets, low rate of releasing maximum heat and has high smoke suppression. Owing to presence of the organically modified layered double hydroxide in the defined amount, a smaller amount of metal hydroxide can be used.
EFFECT: invention simplifies production of composite material, which can result in improved mechanical properties.
