FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: first echo pulses of ultrasonic pulses transmitted to the measurement point are measured. A heating light beam (11) is transmitted to measurement point. Second echo pulses of ultrasonic pulses transmitted to the measurement point are measured. Optical absorption coefficient (µa) and/or optical scattering coefficient (µs) is determined from the first and second echo pulses.

EFFECT: reliable determination of at least one optical coefficient inside the object, particularly optical absorption coefficient in biological tissue.
