FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: blood serum or plasma sample is examined for the content of unesterified cholesterol (Cuech), total cholesterol (Ctch) and cholesterol esters (Cche). Then, the cholesterol ester concentration is calculated by formula: Cche=Ecs/Est*2.585, mmol/l, where Ecs is the extinction of a control sample, Est is the extinction of a standard, 2.585 is a coefficient, and the unesterified cholesterol concentration is described as: Cuech-Ctch-Cche, mmol/l. A norm is a relation Cche/Cuech=1.70-2.33 standard units. The less said relation is the higher a degree of disturbed cholesterol metabolism.
EFFECT: use of the method allows evaluating reliably the content of esterified and unesterified forms of cholesterol and detecting disturbed cholesterol metabolism.
