FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical instrument manufacture, in particular, to polarisation apparatuses wherein the Faraday effect is used to measure the electric current in high-voltage networks. Substance: the optical dual-channel current meter is comprised of two measuring channels: precise and rough. Each channel comprises a light source, an optical fibre, a collimator, a first polariser, a glass prism, a second polariser, the transmission plane whereof constitutes ±45° with the transmission plane of the first polariser, a second optical fibre, and a photodetector. Both glass prisms are installed in a coaxial magnetic field of a complete coil of a conductor segment, made, e.g., of a copper wide bus in form of one or two coils. The path taken by the polarised light in the glass of the precise channel is several times longer than the path taken by the light in the rough channel.
EFFECT: increased current measurement range with high measurement accuracy, provided is also a signal for positive action of the relay protection at short-circuit currents.
