FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a water treatment apparatus, particularly a ballast water treatment apparatus for removing deposits and/or removing and/or destroying living organisms. The apparatus has at least one filter unit, at least one disinfecting unit, a detecting unit and a control unit, where said detecting unit can detect the number of living organisms per unit volume of water, and where said disinfecting unit is controlled by said control unit and said detecting unit depending on the detected number of living organisms, where said detecting unit comprises a fluorometre for detecting living organisms in water, and where said fluorometre measures the minimum and maximum fluorescence with respect to unit volume of water and additionally has an evaluating unit for calculating variable fluorescence and the number of living organisms of the control type and where said disinfecting unit has at least one electrolysis cell which is controlled depending on the detected number of living organisms selected from a group comprising phytoplankton and microorganism cells.
EFFECT: invention provides highly accurate monitoring of the efficiency of disinfection.
