FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves converting erbium (III) into a complex compound with xylenol orange in a weakly acidic medium. A 180-250-fold amount of xylenol orange is added to the erbium (III) solution with pH 4-5. 0.1-0.3 ml of a surfactant is also added to the erbium (III) solution, said surfactant being obtained by dissolving 0.2 g of gelatin in warm water and bringing the volume to 100 ml by adding water. The volume of the solutions is increased to 10 ml with water and heated in a water bath at temperature 80-98°C for 10-15 minutes.
EFFECT: high sensitivity of photometric determination of erbium.
