SUBSTANCE: disclosed is an encoding method involving: defining access units; and an encoding each of the images included in the access unit for each access unit. Defining involves: encoding unit determination for determining whether to uniformly encode the images included in an access unit, uniformly encode on a field basis or frame-by-frame basis; and determining the type of field to determine whether to uniformly encode images as top fields or bottom fields when it has been determined that images included in the access unit must be encoded on a field basis. During encoding, each of the images is encoded for each access unit in a format defined when determining encoding units and the type of field.

EFFECT: defining a container or access unit when each of the images or different MVC component types are encoded differently using frame coding or field coding.
