FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to bismuth analytical chemistry. The method of determining bismuth involves preparation of a bismuth (III) solution in nitric acid, extraction of bismuth (III) form the solution using a sorbent, conversion thereof into a complex compound on the surface of the sorbent, separation from the solution, treatment of the sorbent with an organic reagent, measurement of the diffuse reflection factor of the bismuth (III) surface complex. The sorbent used is silica gel which is chemically modified with dithiocarbaminate groups. The sorbent is treated with 1·10-5-1·10-4 M solution of dithizone in 50-96% solution of ethyl alcohol in water. The diffuse reflection factor is measured at 490 nm.
EFFECT: lower bismuth detection limit, wider range of determined content and shorter time for determination.
