FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to detection of ruthenium (IV) in refining solutions, containing osmium (IV). The method involves preparation of a solution of ruthenium (IV) and osmium (IV) in hydrochloric acid, extraction of ruthenium (IV) from the solution in form of a complex compound on the surface of a sorbent and measurement of the diffuse reflection factor. The sorbent is silica gel, chemically modified with diethyldithiocarbamate groups. Ruthenium is extracted from the solution at 90°C and the diffuse reflection factor of the ruthenium (IV) complex on the surface of the sorbent is measured at 380 nm.
EFFECT: increased selectivity and simplification of analysis.
