FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to analytical chemistry of elements, specifically to methods of determining platinum, and can be used when determining in geological and industrial materials, process and industrial water. Method includes preparing a solution of platinum (IV) in hydrochloric acid, extraction of platinum (IV) from solution using a sorbent, which is silica gel, chemically modified with mercapto groups, conversion thereof into a complex compound on surface of sorbent, separating sorbent from solution by decantation, measuring diffuse reflection factor of platinum surface complex and content of platinum from a calibration curve, when converting platinum (IV) into a complex compound on surface of sorbent there is reduction thereof to platinum (II) as a result of reaction with mercapto groups, after separation of sorbent from solution sorbent is treated with 1·10-5 - 1·10-4 M solution of Michler thioketone in 50 % ethyl alcohol solution in water, and measurement of diffuse reflection factor of platinum (II) surface complex is carried out at 540 nm.
EFFECT: higher sensitivity and information content of analysis.
