FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: system (10), configured to determine information related to one or more gaseous analytes in a body of gas comprises a luminescent material (16), one or more emitters (12), one or more photosensitive detectors (14), and a processor (18). The emitters (12) emit amplitude modulated electromagnetic radiation (13) onto the luminescent medium (16) in communication with the body of gas causing luminescence in the luminescent medium (16). The photosensitive detector (14) receives the amplitude modulated electromagnetic radiation (26) generated by the luminescence of the luminescent medium (16) and generates one or more output signals, at least one of the output signals indicating the intensity of the received electromagnetic radiation (26). The processor (18) receives the output signals and determines information related to one or more gaseous analytes in the body of gas. The determination of information related to the one or more gaseous analytes may comprise compensating for a delay which varies as a function of the intensity of the received electromagnetic radiation (26).
