FIELD: lighting.
SUBSTANCE: methods and systems for control of lighting power of a three-dimensional imaging system based on a lidar system, based on discrete levels of lighting power, are described. In one of objects, lighting intensity of a pulse beam of lighting light emitted by the lidar system is changed according to a set of levels of lighting power based on the difference between the required and measured return pulse. In an additional object, a lighting power level is selected based on whether the intensity difference exceeds one of values of a sequence of predetermined multilevel threshold values. Thus, the intensity of measured return pulses is maintained within a linear range of an analogue-to-digital converter for objects registered in a wide range of distances from the lidar system and in a wide range of environment conditions on an optical path between the lidar system and the registered object.
